Based in Zurich, Switzerland and New York City, ZAS Films produces features and documentary films. Director and Producer Ruedi Gerber founded ZAS Films in 1992. Coming from a theater background Ruedi began making independent films after graduating from the Tisch School of The Arts, New York University, in 1990.
Working in the field of independent filmmaking, ZAS Films is thematically involved in the arts, the social impact of enviromental issues and the blur of fiction and reality.
Ruedi Gerber, Director/Producer
Ruedi began his career as a professional theatre actor, performing in over 30 plays in Germany, Switzerland and Austria. Upon graduating with honors from NYU's Tisch School of the Arts in 1990, Gerber produced and directed a series of award-winning fictional shorts, including CAFÉ MECHANIQUE, and MIDNIGHT BARBECUE (Best Director Award, NYU).
Transitioning into feature length films, Gerber continued to garner acclaim, beginning with his documentaries LIVING WITH THE SPILL (Channel 4, London), and META-MECANO (awarded Best Architecture Documentary, Paris 1997). Later, he directed his first narrative feature in the U.S., HEARTBREAK HOSPITAL, starring Patricia Clarkson, John Shea, Damian Bichir, and Diane Venora. Soon after Gerber began work on what would become BREATH MADE VISIBLE, a feature length documentary about Halprin’s inspiring, trailblazing life and work, which premiered at the Locarno Film Festival and the Mill Valley Film Festival, where it won the Audience Award. Following SENIORS ROCKING, he directed and produced JOURNEY IN SENSUALITY – ANNA HALPRIN AND RODIN, completing the trilogy about the work of Anna Halprin.
Ruedi Gerber produced the Italian feature film GIRL IN FLIGHT- LA FUGA and is one of the producers of the upcoming BASMATI BLUES with Donald Sutherland and Brie Larsen. His next project, SONG OF SEEDS - a documentary about rice farmers in Kerala, India, is in production.
Lisa Mark - Project Management, Office Manager
Lisa started working for ZAS Films in 2008.
She worked previously as IT professional for Credit Suisse and IBM and in Public Relations for ETH, Zurich.
She also has her own practice using horses as a form of therapy.
Michael King - Freelance Co-Producer
Michael, an award-winning graduate of New York University’s Graduate Tisch School of the Arts, began working in the New York film industry as a location manager for many directors such as Robert Altman, Ang Lee, and Robert Redford, and on TV shows, including The Sopranos and Mad Men. He has line produced segments of Hal Hartley’s Faye Grim, an official selection at the Toronto, Sundance and Berlin Film Festivals and Tamara Jenkins’ The Savages, an Academy Award nominated film. He produced the feature film Liberty Kid, acquired by HBO. He also co-produced the documentary Breath Made Visible which won the Audience Award at the Mill Valley Film Festival, and produced CERCO FAMIGLIA (GIRL IN FLIGHT), an italian feature.
After graduating with a degree in Economics and International Relations, Lakshmi had a long career as a professional dancer and choreographer, working with renowned dancers Min Tanaka in Japan, Oguri in Los Angeles, Anna Halprin in San Francisco and Eiko and Koma in New York. She has collaborated with filmmakers and musicians; performing in museums, in film and on stage; on an international scale.
Her diverse background includes directing experimental shorts films, and managing projects in high-tech, public and corporate organizations.
She joined ZAS Film in 2014. Most recently she works for ZAS remotely from Toronto, Canada on a project basis.
